6.0 Yankee Springs Time Trial Update - presented by Dennis Murphy.
6.1 Free pint glasses for the 20th anniversary for every pre-registered rider on Bike Reg.We will sell the remainder for $5.00 (already available to order on the web site).6.2 WMMBA now owns the domain name for the YSTT (as opposed to being under an individuals name).6.3 $15 t-shirt. Same logo as last year but with 20th Anniversary notation.6.4 Locking in sponsors for pamphlet, shirts, etc.6.5 Experts will have 2-laps and start every 15 secs from noon on-wards.6.6 Normal direction this year.6.7 Start times of each person will be stuck on their bib at registration.6.8 Vintage Class this year. Award to the most vintage (age and original components).Will race an abbreviated lap at 2:30 p.m.6.9 Team Row/Sponsor sites for $25.00. First come first serve. Limited to 17.

*Date Confirmed: May 29 - 31, 2009*Venue Confirmed: Cannonsburg Ski Area*Hotel: Comfort Inn & Suites at US-131 & West River Drive*Camping Area: Rogue River*Still need title sponsor.*Can be a corporate sponsor on the midway for $250.*www.midwestmtbsummit.com and Facebook group. Going for grassroots marketing in addition to the West Michigan Sports Commission.

8.0 Trail Reports
8.1 Luton - Steve & Rick presented. New red loop added 1.6 mile. Anticipate Spring finish. Yellow loop is done. Total of 6.5 miles with red loop. Plans for one more loop. A call to please be considerate of the neighbors and keep yelling down. Steve suggested “Share the Trail” signs.Please encourage enthusiasts to send emails to Kent County that they like the trail.

9.0 State Board Updates - presented by Nate Phelps
*Members needed to run for Member-at-Large. Currently Martin Hall and Heather Kubiak arerunning. There are 6 people total in the state running, and only 4 to be elected.
*MMBA Membership fees have increased for family and individuals with a corresponding increase to the partition distributed to the respective chapters.

Chapter Minutes: Its A Grind 8-4-04Saturday, August 4th, 2007

$800 spent on Yankee Time Trial Printing. Combined with Custer for Printing This will be the last time we work this way. from now on work through Chris Davidson.
April 19th/20th 2008 for YSTT. Will try to incorporate Saturday Event. Gault to do timing again.
Chapter received donation of 72 pieces treated 2×4x36
Free ride Skills park opening August 18th 10AM on to all day. Geeride has professional photographer in group. Bring tent and goods from garage fest. Try to get video possibly ken?
Camp out weekend of August 25th. Red Bridge/tippy dam.
IMBA Visit october 25th-28th. Nate trying to hook up with City of GR to arrange meeting. Possibly get them to Yankee Springs to look at tough spots. Saturday at the Ski Area for Advanced trail building techniques. Chris Curtis seeking possible walk in to game area with DNR. Sunday going to Greenville.
Party in conjunction with IMBA visit at Diamond Street hall. Mary Stoddard to lead organization. 200 person capacity. $750 budget. $10/ head 2 bands lined up with Rockabilly and Blues possibilities. Founders on tap. email nate if you are interested in helping or if your s.o. wants to help. start at 6 with family oriented stuff. bands start at 10. Halloween costume party.
Last day of Game area Friday september 14th. Will set up tent, costumes optional. Next day is Kisscross kickoff.
Cancel hungerford trail day due to Nate’s broken toe. Move to 22nd/29th September. major trail work.

Nate Phelps, President, Call to order.
Dr. Carroll Griffin presents survey of NCT usage. Did Trail head user survey. Survey done on one section of Huron Manistee National Forest. Morilla to Timber Creek Research goals were to identify user perceptions of the trail, compare 1997 to 2004 surveys. Found in 2004 about equal use between Hikers and Mountain Bikers. Of any user group asked, 80% were satisfied with their experience. Negative experiences mostly derived from run ins with very large groups. 80% of bikers know who has right of way compared to 60% of hikers.
Link to full Power Point Presentation to come.Nate Phelps: State level: 2 New Directors at State level: John Gonway, who is a real estate lawyer, is Director of Government affairs. Jason Jones is now Director of Advocacy. Jason is putting together advocacy committee, to bring together issues and good practices from all trail coordinators in state. Two new directors and State President meeting with DNR on friday. Asking for top ten list to present to state level to be addressed. Coordinators, please contact Nate with your ideas and lists via e-mail.
Membership: 1122 Volunteer Hours to date. 340 Volunteer Hours at CSGA, 32-35 folks at Game Area. 192 Active Members. 58 are new members. Good turn out at trail days. Looking to do bi-monthly calender/re-newal.
Treasurer’s Report: Sue Swiger; sitting on $9000 for chapter. Sue motions to set aside $5000 for next year’s YSTT. Passed. $4000 remains for chapter budget. Yard Boss and Chainsaw were most recent purchases.
Communications: Nate to start monthly e-mails. Web page usage being tracked by Seth. Report next month. Trail kiosks for trail heads at CSGA and Bass River. Chris to put one up at CSGA first.
Trail school 101 to happen at edwards creek by end of summer.
Board to discuss t-shirts/fundraising
Fun MMBA day no work, just play. everyone’s got ideas. Need date, solid plan. Ionia? July 21st? or August 25th? Possibly @ house local to ski area.

June 2nd National Trails Day CSGA Trail Clean up 3 mile lot, Chris Curtis looking into Dumpster. Jason Dew suggests talking to R. Merrel about tractor. Before + After pictures, try to get GR press/WYCE. There are deer carcasses, appliances, mattresses, household garbage, etc. Chris to contact DNR for approval. Nate to contact Waste Management for potential donation of hauling.
East Hills Council of Neighbors Garage Fest. May 12th 3pm-10pm Bazzani’s Garage Wealthy + Diamond, Grand Rapids. Western MMBA is representing, chapter donated $100 to association. If anyone would like to sit at the chapter tent, contact Nate Phelps, or just show up. Membership forms, maps, pictures, etc.
Mountain Bike 101 June 9th: Outreach for Beginners: Ada bikes to bring demo fleet, Ride easy trails, two track. Bike maintenence demos, skills. Leads to August 19th Mountain Bike 201 which is more advanced, looking to incorporate ‘professional rider demos’. ride full loop, educational ride.
Halloween Weekend IMBA Trail care crew visit. Fund raiser Friday night at polish hall, costumes, please. Hungover group ride saturday? Schedule Tentative. weekend of October 26th-28th.
Western Chapter Campout Social chapter campout weekend fun, bikes, food, libations. Date pending, september or october. consider dates and location for next meeting.
State Level issues: Aaron Smith presenting; Search for Executive Director is underway. Part time position 80-90 hours/month. Role is: Increasing membership + funds, overseeing operations of the state. Also created position of Advocacy director, receive 2 resumes so far. This volunteer position is to be a go to person for chapters to use as resource for advice and guidance.
Hungerford: May 19th Trail Day. Aaron: Reroute marked, corridor cleared, need help.
CSGA good trail day, Chris C: reroutes opened, creek crossing armored, phase 2 being discussed with DNR. Bridges fixed for the most part. Need to reclaim old trail. bring everyone to june 2nd trail day.
Ski area Skills area: Jason Dgood progress and feedback, work happening every weekend. hours are building. 3 routes done, now in process of armoring and safety ramps. trying to get IMBA freeride grant.
Bass River: Tom: Trail day on mud pit. you can ride back section without getting dirty now. fall trail day. just maintain trail path. talk of skinny through mud. DNR Master Plan coming soonSki Area: Rick: 1/2 mile added last week. follows creek, still difficult like the ski area. trail beds shaping up nicely. some soggy areas that may need armor. always more to do. 6 miles total. potential of 8 miles. Rick having no problem getting free food.
Yankee Springs: Martin Hall: Trail Update: prescribed burn 1/3 of trail was burned. Tim + Martin have good relationship with DNR. 3 plans: first, renumber trail with miles, stop points, and emergency exits. second, new rest room at trail head; DNR to provide blue prints for new outhouse, looking to use money/volunteers to do outhouse with donated help/material. third, Review of master plan for State Recreation Area. Martin and Tim proposing new trails with cooperation of land managers.
Yankee Time Trial: Good turnout, good weather, count: 509 racers, tentatively. good results for chapter. no timing disputes. good feedback. great fund raiser for chapter. Great work by volunteers, there was no want for volunteers this year.
